Who We Are

Russell Talbert first became interested in dance as a college student at Northern Illinois University. He was so impressed by a performance of the George Faison Company, the choreographer for the Broadway show "The Wiz", that he immediately switched classes in the performing arts. He began studying African, Modern, Jazz and Ballet forms of dance and transferred to Columbia College, Chicago to study more intensely. Mr Talbert received a B.A. degree and also earned full scholarship to the Stone Camryn School of Ballet, Chicago.

Mr Talbert went on to dance professionally with the San Antonio Ballet Company of Texas, Erie Bay Front Ballet Company of Pennsylvania, Joseph Holmes Dance Theater, Chicago Dance Medium and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and taught workshops for the Bahamas National Dance Company. His repertoire includes principal roles in the "Nutcracker", "Le Corsaire's pas de deux", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Carmen and Coppella".

Mr Talbert carved out a specialty in choreography that instructs and challenges young dancers. His works have been commissioned by numerous youth programs. He established his Chicago presence teaching ballet with The Joseph Holmes Dance Theater, Chicago Dance Medium, Sammy Dyer School of the Theater and at the Southside YMCA. In 2000 The Russell Talbert Dance Studio launched as an independent endeavor. Mr Talbert is committed to teaching the highest level of ballet technique as students explore the creative, educational and cultural aspects of dance.
